The Mount Vernon Swing Band
The Musicians

|
Saxophones - Our saxophone section boasts all veteran musicians. On Alto Saxophone we have John Howell and Jimmy Smith. On Tenor we have Greg Zygiel and Jim Vedda, recalling the great tenor sax duos of the Miller and Dorsey bands. On Baritone sax we have Tony Jordan, holding the section anchor position. All these great saxophonists also play clarinet.
Trumpets Our trumpet section is composed of four great horns; Ron Downer, Eric Leighty, Gary Moore and Brandon Whittington.
Trombones George Stephanos is joined by Lin Vedda, Melissa Bayliss, Ruth Ann Kier-Root and on occasion our leader, Owen Hammett. AND NOW PETE |

The floor on which we build our music is laid down by the Rhythm Section. Our pianist and keyboard artist is Shiela Epstein. On bass we have Jeanine Hyde. On drums is Matt Hardy, assisted by Francie Miller on Rhythm instruments. Don Miller is on banjo. Vocals Christina Juergens brings a polished, professional style to our ballads and romantic tunes. Star Smith gives her vocal renditions a personal sound -- she really is singing to you. The lead musicians from each section form our Dixieland Band, which also performs at many of the same venues and serves as a warm-up act for dinner-dance programs. These fine musicians all perform with other bands as well as Mount Vernon Swing Band, spreading their talents throughout our musical community. Most have day jobs, performing their music around work and family responsibilities. |
